A patient with hypertension presented with life-threatening pulmonary embolism (PE), experiencing dyspnea, chest pain, and hypoxia. A CT scan revealed a large right-sided PE, and with the patient’s hemodynamic instability, immediate action was necessary.
A successful computer-assisted aspiration thrombectomy was performed, using the Penumbra Lightning 12 Fr device via right femoral vein access. The procedure resulted in significant clinical improvement, including rapid hemodynamic stabilization, normalization of oxygen saturation, and a reduction in pulmonary pressure.
This case highlights the Penumbra Lightning 12 Fr as an effective and minimally invasive option for managing acute and sub-acute PE.
